Introduction

Greece had been on my bucket list for years, and this trip was everything I imagined—history, stunning views, and unforgettable meals. From the ancient ruins of Athens to the whitewashed beauty of Mykonos and the breathtaking sunsets of Santorini, every moment felt like a scene from a postcard.

Athens: A City of History and Modern Elegance

Our adventure began with a flight from JFK to Athens, where we checked into Athens Flair for a two-night stay.

Where We Stayed: Athens Flair

Tucked away in the heart of the city, Athens Flair is a boutique hotel that offers a perfect blend of modern luxury and historical charm. Housed in a beautifully restored neoclassical building, the hotel is stylish, sophisticated, and intimate. The rooms are beautifully designed, with elegant decor and high ceilings that reflect the city’s architectural heritage. What we loved most was the hotel’s location—it was close enough to all the major sites while still offering a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Day One: Immersing in Athenian Culture

After settling in, we spent our first day exploring the local scene, soaking in the lively atmosphere of the city. Athens is a fascinating blend of ancient and modern, where centuries-old ruins stand alongside trendy cafes and boutiques. We walked through the historic Plaka neighborhood, one of the city’s most charming areas, filled with narrow streets, neoclassical houses, and plenty of tavernas where locals and visitors alike enjoy traditional Greek dishes.

Dinner at CTC Urban Gastronomy: A Michelin-Starred Experience

For our first dinner in Athens, we had an unforgettable meal at CTC Urban Gastronomy, a Michelin-starred restaurant that takes modern Greek cuisine to a whole new level. Tucked away in a quiet part of the city, CTC offers an intimate, fine-dining experience, where every course feels like a masterpiece.

We opted for the tasting menu, a multi-course journey curated by Chef Alexandros Tsiotinis. Each dish was a creative reimagining of classic Greek flavors, presented with impeccable attention to detail. Some of the standout courses included:

  • Aegean Shrimp Tartare – Fresh, delicate shrimp paired with citrus and subtle spices, bursting with vibrant flavors.
  • Lobster with Fava Cream – A luxurious take on the classic Santorini fava bean puree, perfectly complementing the sweetness of the lobster.
  • Lamb with Smoked Aubergine – A melt-in-your-mouth dish that combined rich, smoky flavors with tender meat.
  • Dessert: Greek Mastic & Chocolate Sphere – A playful yet sophisticated finale, featuring the unique flavor of mastic resin blended with creamy chocolate.

The wine pairing was equally impressive, featuring selections from Greece’s finest vineyards, each glass enhancing the flavors of the dishes. The ambiance at CTC was refined yet welcoming, making the whole evening feel like a truly special experience.

Day Two: Ancient Wonders & Stunning Views

Our second day in Athens was dedicated to its legendary history. We started with Athena’s Garden, a peaceful and beautiful site that truly captures the essence of Greek mythology. Then, of course, we made our way to the Parthenon, standing proudly atop the Acropolis. Seeing this ancient wonder up close was surreal—its towering marble columns and rich history made it easy to understand why it has stood the test of time.

For dinner, we headed to Orizontes Lycabettus, a restaurant perched on Mount Lycabettus, the highest point in Athens. The panoramic views of the city were breathtaking, and as night fell, we saw the Parthenon beautifully illuminated in the distance. It was one of those magical travel moments I’ll never forget.

Mykonos: Sun, Sea, and Sophistication

Next, we took a ferry to Mykonos, the island famous for its windmills, vibrant nightlife, and crystal-clear waters.

Where We Stayed: CUBIC Mykonos

Our home for the next two nights was CUBIC Mykonos, a sleek and modern boutique hotel. Unlike some of the traditional Cycladic-style accommodations, this hotel offers a more contemporary feel, with minimalist design, clean lines, and high-end amenities. The rooms were spacious and thoughtfully designed, featuring large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The location was ideal—close enough to the main town for convenience, but far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet.

Day One: Exploring the Heart of Mykonos

After checking in, we took a taxi into Mykonos Town (Chora), a maze of charming cobblestone streets lined with whitewashed buildings and colorful bougainvillea. We wandered through Little Venice, where buildings sit right on the water’s edge, creating one of the most picturesque spots on the island. The iconic Kato Mili windmills were another highlight—one of the best places to take in the sunset.

Dinner that evening was at Kalita Restaurant, a cozy and elegant spot tucked away in the town. The ambiance was perfect, and the fresh Mediterranean flavors made for an unforgettable meal.

Day Two: Beachside Bliss & Dinner at M-Eating

On our second day in Mykonos, we embraced the island’s laid-back vibe and spent most of the day by the beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the crystal-clear waters.

For our final dinner on the island, we chose M-Eating, one of Mykonos’ most highly-rated restaurants. Located in a charming traditional Cycladic house with a beautiful courtyard, M-Eating offers an elevated yet unpretentious take on Greek cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients and innovative presentations.

A Culinary Experience at M-Eating

The atmosphere at M-Eating was elegant but relaxed, with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, soft lighting, and an intimate feel. The staff was incredibly welcoming, offering excellent recommendations and ensuring we had the perfect dining experience.

For appetizers, we started with:

  • Mykonian Cheese Pie with Honey and Sesame – A delightful balance of sweet and savory, featuring warm, crispy pastry filled with rich, creamy cheese, drizzled with fragrant local honey.
  • Beef Tartare with Truffle Oil and Capers – A fresh and flavorful dish, enhanced by the delicate aroma of truffle and the tangy burst of capers.

For the main course, we couldn’t resist trying the restaurant’s signature dishes:

  • Lamb with Aubergine Purée and Tomato Jus – The lamb was cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and beautifully complemented by the smoky aubergine purée and rich tomato-based sauce.
  • Sea Bass Fillet with Lemon Risotto – A light yet indulgent dish, where the flaky, perfectly seared sea bass paired exquisitely with the creamy, citrus-infused risotto.

To end the evening on a sweet note, we shared:

  • Greek Yogurt Panna Cotta with Basil and Strawberry Coulis – A refreshing and modern twist on traditional Greek yogurt, with a silky-smooth texture and a vibrant, fruity finish.

M-Eating perfectly encapsulated what we loved about Mykonos—traditional Greek flavors presented with sophistication, a warm and inviting atmosphere, and impeccable service. It was the ideal farewell meal to our time on this beautiful island.

Santorini: A Picture-Perfect Paradise

From Mykonos, we took another ferry to Santorini, the island of breathtaking cliffs, blue-domed churches, and legendary sunsets.

Where We Stayed: Oia Castle – Cave Suite

For our final destination, we stayed at Oia Castle, in a Cave Suite, and it was nothing short of magical. Built into the cliffs of Oia, the suite had a unique design with smooth, curved interiors and traditional Cycladic architecture. The highlight was the private terrace with panoramic views of the caldera—watching the sunset from there was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And we can’t forget the heated jacuzzi pool!

Day One: Living the Santorini Dream

Our first day in Santorini was all about soaking in the island’s charm. Oia, with its winding paths and postcard-perfect views, is simply magical.

For dinner, we dined at Esperisma Bar-Restaurant, which had an incredible terrace overlooking the sea. Watching the sunset while enjoying a perfectly cooked seafood dish was an experience I’ll never forget.

Day Two: Beachside Serenity & Dinner at Basalt Restaurant

Our second day in Santorini was all about exploring the island’s natural beauty. We took a scenic walk along the beachside paths, admiring the volcanic landscapes and the contrast between the deep blue waters and the island’s rugged cliffs. We visited Red Beach, famous for its dramatic red cliffs, and Kamari Beach, known for its black volcanic sand.

As the sun began to set on our last evening in Greece, we made our way to Basalt Restaurant in Ammoudi Bay for a farewell dinner. Nestled in this picturesque harbor, Basalt is a hidden gem that blends rustic charm with contemporary elegance. The restaurant sits right on the water, with tables just steps away from the sea, creating a magical, intimate dining experience.

A Culinary Masterpiece at Basalt

The menu at Basalt celebrates locally sourced, high-quality ingredients, with a focus on fresh seafood and bold Mediterranean flavors. We started our meal with:

  • Grilled Octopus with Fava Bean Puree – A classic Santorini dish, where the tender, charred octopus paired perfectly with the creamy fava beans.
  • Santorini Tomato Fritters – Crispy, golden bites bursting with the sweetness of locally grown cherry tomatoes.

For the main course, we couldn’t resist ordering their signature seafood dishes:

  • Whole Grilled Seabass – Perfectly cooked and seasoned with just olive oil, lemon, and sea salt, allowing the freshness of the fish to shine.
  • Lobster Pasta – A luxurious, rich dish with handmade pasta coated in a flavorful, slightly spicy tomato-based sauce, topped with generous pieces of lobster.

To complement our meal, we enjoyed a bottle of Assyrtiko wine, Santorini’s famous crisp, mineral-rich white wine, which paired beautifully with the seafood.

Finally, we ended with dessert:

  • Baklava Cheesecake – A delicious fusion of traditional Greek baklava and creamy cheesecake, drizzled with honey and topped with crushed nuts.

The atmosphere at Basalt Restaurant was warm and inviting, with the glow of lanterns reflecting off the water, the sound of waves gently lapping against the rocks, and the sight of fishing boats swaying in the bay. It was the perfect, romantic ending to our Greek adventure.
