✈️ Arrival Day – Welcome to Paradise

After landing at Cancún International Airport, I was greeted by a smiling Hotel Xcaret representative holding a sign with my name. Unlike other resorts, Hotel Xcaret offers complimentary airport transfers, and I was whisked away in a comfortable, air-conditioned van—bottled water and chilled towels included.

As we approached the resort, the lush jungle surroundings gave way to an architectural marvel. Hotel Xcaret México blends seamlessly into the Riviera Maya landscape with its natural rivers, stone bridges, cenotes, and eco-integrated design.

🛏️ Check-In & Room Reveal

I was staying in Casa Agua, one of the resort’s themed “casas” that cater to wellness-focused guests. My suite featured:

  • A private balcony with a hammock overlooking the turquoise river
  • Rainfall shower and a freestanding soaking tub
  • Local artisan decor with a modern twist
  • Nespresso machine, stocked mini-bar, and robes so soft they should be illegal

After a warm “Bienvenido,” I headed to Bio, the casa’s wellness restaurant, for a light and refreshing welcome meal.

🥗 Dinner at Las Cuevas

Dinner that night was at Las Cuevas, one of the resort’s most unique dining venues—literally carved into a cave. Think candle-lit stone pathways, underground rivers, and dramatic lighting. It was an international buffet with live stations, including a fresh ceviche bar, a taco station with cochinita pibil, and decadent desserts like tres leches cake and churros. I tried a smoky mezcal cocktail called “La Llama”—a fiery start to the trip!

🌞 Day 1 – Exploring the Resort + Relaxation by the River

🌿 Morning Yoga & River Swim

The next morning began with a sunrise yoga class on a thatched-roof palapa overlooking the river. I followed that with a dip in the calm, crystal-clear river that snakes through the property. Floating peacefully among lush vegetation, it felt like swimming in a cenote that was just for me.

🍳 Breakfast at Mercado de la Merced

This open-air market-style restaurant is a feast for all the senses. Think:

  • Made-to-order chilaquiles with red or green salsa
  • A quesadilla station with hand-pressed corn tortillas
  • Fresh-squeezed juices like guava, papaya, and tamarind

I loaded up on chilaquiles, fresh tropical fruit, and café de olla before starting my day of exploring the resort grounds.

🏝️ Afternoon: Poolside Vibes & Kayaking

I spent the afternoon rotating between:

  • The oceanfront infinity pool, where staff served ice pops and margaritas
  • A kayak ride through the in-resort river system, offering a unique way to explore
  • Lounging in a hammock by the adults-only Rooftop Bar Fuego, which had panoramic views of the Caribbean

🍷 Dinner at Ha’ – The Gourmet Experience

This was hands-down the best meal of the trip. Ha’, the resort’s fine-dining restaurant, is led by Michelin-starred chef Carlos Gaytán.

Highlights from my 7-course tasting menu:

  • Lobster in coconut foam with mango salsa
  • Duck confit with mole negro
  • Mezcal-infused sorbet palate cleanser
  • Each dish was paired with Mexican wines, including a rich Baja Nebbiolo

Reservations are a must here—it’s intimate and exquisite.

🌊 Day 2 – Full Day at Xcaret Park

🎟️ Getting There

Hotel Xcaret’s claim to fame is its “All-Fun Inclusive” access to all Grupo Xcaret parks. Transportation was smooth—a comfortable shuttle took us from the resort to Xcaret Park (just 10 minutes away).

🐠 Morning: Underground River Adventure

Xcaret is massive, but I started with its signature underground river swim. Wearing a life vest and water shoes, I floated through 45-minute-long freshwater tunnels with stalactites hanging above and fish swimming beneath me.

There are three river routes—I chose the Blue River, which winds through mangroves and cenote-like caves.

🌺 Midday: Wildlife, Culture & History

  • Visited the butterfly pavilion, home to over 20 native species
  • Walked through the Aviary, where toucans and scarlet macaws fly overhead
  • Explored the Mayan ruins, small but historically rich, built into the jungle paths
  • Snacked on elote (Mexican street corn) and a passionfruit agua fresca from a vendor

🌇 Evening: Xcaret México Espectacular

This is the crown jewel of the park—an epic live show held in an open-air amphitheater that takes you through 500 years of Mexican history and folklore.

  • 300+ performers
  • Traditional dances from all 32 Mexican states
  • Mariachi, Aztec drumming, Mayan ballgame reenactments

I’ll admit—I teared up during the finale. The pride and passion were contagious.

🌮 Dinner at La Cocina – In the Park

Before heading back, I grabbed dinner at La Cocina, a casual restaurant within Xcaret. I had cochinita pibil tacos, black bean soup, and an agua de jamaica (hibiscus tea). Rustic and authentic.

🏛️ Day 3 – Day Trip to Tulum

🚐 Morning Transfer

Another benefit of Hotel Xcaret? They arranged my guided day trip to Tulum, included in the all-fun-inclusive program. Our bilingual guide, Alejandra, was incredibly knowledgeable.

The drive was just over an hour, and we arrived early—perfect for avoiding crowds.

🏝️ Exploring the Tulum Ruins

There’s something magical about Tulum’s ruins perched on cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

  • El Castillo: The iconic pyramid was once a lighthouse for Mayan traders
  • Temple of the Frescoes: Intricate carvings and faded ancient murals
  • Wild iguanas sunning themselves everywhere

Our guide explained the Mayan calendar, their complex spiritual system, and how Tulum was one of the last cities they built.

🐚 Beach Break + Lunch

After the ruins, we had free time at Playa Paraiso, where I swam in the surf and relaxed under palm trees.

Lunch was at a beachfront restaurant called Mateo’s Mexican Grill:

  • Shrimp ceviche served in a coconut
  • Fresh-caught grilled snapper
  • A mango margarita with chile-lime salt rim

We returned to the hotel in the late afternoon, just in time to refresh for dinner.

🍝 Dinner at Cantina Los Faroles

This lively restaurant has a Mexico City cantina vibe—live music, great drinks, and hearty food. I had:

  • Tlayuda (Oaxacan-style pizza with refried beans, cheese, and steak)
  • Mezcal flight with tasting notes from the bartender
  • A sweet corn cake with cinnamon cream

It was the perfect blend of casual and cultural.

🌞 Day 4 – Spa, Beach Time & Final Sunset

🌸 Muluk Spa Morning

I decided to treat myself to a signature massage at Muluk Spa, which is built into a natural rock cave. The hydrotherapy circuit alone was worth it—alternating between steam rooms, cold plunge pools, and a natural cenote.

My 80-minute cacao and honey body wrap was indulgent, and left my skin glowing and my soul floating.

🏖️ Beach + Paddleboarding

I finally spent a lazy afternoon on the resort’s private beach cove, with calm water perfect for paddleboarding and snorkeling. I even saw a few parrotfish near the rocky edge!

Staff came by with popsicles and drinks—it was pure heaven.

🍣 Final Dinner at Xin-Gao

A spectacular final meal. Xin-Gao serves modern Japanese cuisine, and I chose the teppanyaki experience.

  • Miso soup, crispy tempura, and an interactive chef who flipped shrimp into our mouths
  • Wagyu beef, scallops, and garlic fried rice cooked right in front of us
  • Dessert? A matcha lava cake with yuzu sorbet. Divine.

🌅 Departure Day – Hasta Luego, Xcaret

My heart was full (and so was my suitcase). After one final breakfast at Bio—chia pudding, fresh papaya, and green juice—I caught my transfer back to the airport.

CUN Terminal 3 – Cancun Airport Mexico

This wasn’t just a resort stay. Hotel Xcaret México is an immersive cultural and sensory journey—a rare place where luxury meets sustainability, and adventure meets relaxation.

🌟 Final Thoughts: Why I’d Return in a Heartbeat

  • The value of the All-Fun-Inclusive concept is unbeatable—unlimited access to top parks, food, drinks, and transportation
  • The variety of experiences: fine dining, Mayan ruins, jungle rivers, cenotes, beaches, live performances
  • The service was top-notch—genuine, kind, and proud of their culture

Hotel Xcaret México isn’t just a vacation. It’s a cultural immersion, an eco-adventure, and a five-star escape all rolled into one.
